I had a dream...

Actually, it was a daydream. It was early 2005, and I was sitting staring at the Discworld calender hanging on my wall and thinking how cool it would be to have a Traveller one hanging next to it. I mentioned this to a few people, and they all agreed that it was a great idea, but like most great ideas - mine, anyway - it came to nothing, and the whole thing was forgotten.

Time passed, Summer 2006 rolled around, and John Griffiths recruited me to join the newly-formed Spica Publishing Ltd, to work on the Spica Sourcebook. While we were investigating print-on-demand companies for the book - something neither of us had ever tried before - I noticed that many of them do calendars as well, and the idea came back again. Everyone still thought it was a great idea, especially since it would give us valuable publishing experience. Finally, it looked like someone might actually do something about it.

As long as that someone was me.

Gulp.

After getting clearance from Marc Miller, we were ready to go. Because we couldn't afford to pay the artists a reasonable fee, it was agreed that they would donate their work for free (retaining copyright for all other uses), and the profits would go to charity. By now, it was late September, which meant I had less than three months to find artists, let them do their work, compile the calendar, sort out printing, advertise it, and get it on sale. It's a good job I work well under pressure. Well, actually I was a gibbering wreck by the end, but online nobody can tell...

The Calendar is available in both printed and PDF format from Lulu.com, and PDF format from DriveThruRPG.com.
